The water lily, also known as the sacred lotus, is symbolic in many cultures as a sign of purity, enlightenment and rebirth due to its unusual growing conditions. Starting in the dark and gloomy mud it grows up towards the light and emerges as a beautiful flower once it reaches the waters surface.
